about

In April 2021 I went to Asia on a musical retreat when most of the world was still closed for one reason, to isolate and write a 5 song medley like Abbey Road. I had a song I considered a failure first (and wasn't haha), Ever Yours. I was disappointed because it was a regular song. To write a medley like the brilliant Abbey Road Side two you needed to think very very strong melody and a bit over two minutes or three like Singles were like back then. And I also had to think tie them together with sound effects. So who flies half way around the world wanting to accomplish the impossible, no one can properly write Beatles. You don't just start at the top. Yet I think I came close ultimately and it all started with Boulevard...

The streets were empty, everyone was in their homes due to the insanity of the world circumstances. So I was walking to the one breakfast place still open, probably not complying but hey, I wanted normalcy and they provided such. Anyway, suddenly the empty streets around me became Liverpool in the 1960s and I started whistling the hook, walking down the boulevard. And boom, I had it, a hook and I wrote the rest very quickly by singing into my iPhone.

I had to have a strong catchy melody yet short segment and I was blessed and given such. I even copied my whistling with a flute as a second verse instead of more words. This thinking of the surrounding traffic and people wandering just wrote it's self and I used street effects to start the song and end it knowing what I wanted to do next and led to Annabella, but that is another story, just click that link.
